Sure, to be a dentist you have to be good with your hands, but dental technologies act as an extension of a dentist's skills with his or her hands. There is only so much the human eye can see. There is only so precise a human hand can get. To improve the level of dental care we can deliver, we need to stay up to date and proficient with the latest accepted technologies. This week, we're going to share some of our thoughts on a few exciting dental technologies that we believe will change dentistry in a lot of great ways.

3D Printing: As it becomes more affordable, more developed, and more available, 3D printing will have a big impact on dentistry. It already is in some ways. It can be used to print anything from orthodontic appliances to tools made for specific conditions. What's perhaps the greatest benefit 3D printing will bring to dentistry, however, is the ability to provide access to state-of-the-art dental materials in communities and regions previously underserved. We may be able to provide dental implants or dentures to remote villages in poverty-stricken areas in the near future. We could possibly use it provide complex dental reconstructions to victims of landmines or unexploded bombs left behind from wars. We believe there is immense potential for good with this technology in the dental industry. Keep an eye on it!

Digital X-Rays: Digital X-rays have been around for some time, but the thing that is improving rapidly and changing dentistry for the better is the clarity in the images and our ability to share them with patients and other practitioners. High definition images provide us with a clearer picture than we've ever been able to have. It allows us to spot things we couldn't see even 20 years ago, which means better care overall. On the flipside, it's also a great patient education tool. It helps builds better trust in our relationships with patients and makes their experience in our chairs more interactive. We hope to see this technology keep improving and making X-rays safer and safer.

Dental Practice Software: We're going to let our nerd flags fly and say that we love what dental practice software has allowed us to do as healthcare providers. We may get frustrated with the bugs sometimes, but the overall experience for practitioners and patients is made better because of it. It allows us to be more dynamic with appointment scheduling, reminders, and follow-up. It also allows us provide more ways for our patients to communicate with us. This is a technology that probably wouldn't make it on many dentist's top ten favorite technologies list, but we're thankful for the many ways dental software allows us to keep everything organized and provide additional layers of service at our practice.
